Where to run in Phnom Penh? The best spots for outdoor running

If you enjoy jogging in Phnom Penh, whether you're looking to stay in shape or discover the city from a different point of view, this guide to running in Phnom Penh is for you! I'll reveal my favorite places to lace up your sneakers and, most importantly, my three favorite running clubs in Phnom Penh.

The Olympic Stadium of Phnom Penh

The Olympic Stadium of Phnom Penh is a notable site, not only for sporting events but also for its aesthetics. It is an excellent place to run in Phnom Penh, offering a well-maintained athletics track. Access is generally free outside of official training sessions or major events.
  • Pros : Dedicated track, sporty atmosphere, friendly staff. Toilets and a 7-Eleven nearby (perfect for air-conditioned refreshments after your workout!)
  • Cons : No shade, so it's best to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon

Neak Banh Teuk Park near Independence Monument

Neak Banh Teuk Park is a popular spot where locals of all ages gather in the evenings. It's a must-visit place for jogging in Phnom Penh, and you're bound to see many runners doing laps around the park.
Its convenient location makes it an ideal starting point or destination for exploring the surrounding area. After your workout, treat yourself to fresh orange juice at Mom Orange or a doughnut at Mony Charvai.

Koh Pich (Diamond Island)

In my opinion, Koh Pich is one of the most pleasant places to go running in Phnom Penh. This island offers many options for runners:
  • Along the waterfront: Enjoy spectacular views of the bridge with illuminated flags connecting Koh Norea.
  • Inner island: Walk along proper sidewalks and shaded areas thanks to lush vegetation. Be careful, however, as the sidewalks can be bumpy.
If needed, restrooms are available in the Connexion complex. Its open architecture allows natural air currents to circulate, creating a cool space without the need for air conditioning. After your run, why not take a coffee break at Konnect Coffee or Café de Paris?

Riverside (Phnom Penh Waterfront)

The Phnom Penh waterfront offers a unique experience along the Mekong River. I recommend going in the morning to avoid the crowds, although the waterfront is spacious enough for evening jogging in Phnom Penh. One of my favorite routes is to start at the bottom of Koh Pich and run along the river to the Sombath restaurant. After your run, if you want to stay in the neighborhood, the Cuffeine café and library is the perfect place to relax.
